Da Stash Box Interviews Ayy Brooks

How long have you been into music?
I have been into music since I can first remember. I did school chorus since the 4th grade, and I started to play guitar when I was 14. Recently, I got into playing the piano and I am enjoying it so much. I got into writing songs when I was young, and I just loved it so I kept with it. Poetry has always been my thing and well, now it's more like Floetry because I've put a lot of my own artistry on it.
What inspires your music?
Friends, family, and life experiences all inspire me to write. What really inspires my music is the raw emotions put into words. When I get the words out that are hardest to say it really puts me on edge, and I love the thrill of it. That feeling gets me up in the morning and keeps me going throughout the day, kind of like how a song gets stuck in your head. There's a little bit of inspiration in every moment of my life.
What has been your favorite moment in your career so far?
I like to enjoy a lot of the small things, but a few months back, I was performing at The Water Street Music Hall in Rochester, NY and when I got off stage the whole crowd stormed the stairs so I was kind of boxed in and everyone just kept yelling and screaming and when I finally made it out the door to call my limo around, the crowd had made it outside! A couple of kids asked me for my autograph and I didn’t have anything to write with so I shook hands, gave them a couple stickers and told them I would hit them next time.
What goals do you wish to achieve in music?
Well this December, the 18th actually, I'm releasing my next project. YKLTD – Young Kids Living the dream, an EP I have been working on to present to the world. I believe my style is so diverse and I have a good feeling this EP will show the audience just that. I have many goals that come with this music and more and more I've been crossing those off my list. An example would be to get a ton radio play, and I got to feeling that might work out all right.

Would you change anything about the music industry?
Oh man for sure, I would love to see some new talent up in the mix. I would also like to see a lot of new genres in the industry, there’s a lot of big thinkers but too many small minded corporates. I’d like to see Tons of open fields and artists shooting for their goals without goalies blocking them.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years from now?
5 years from now I can see myself working way harder than I am now, and meeting a ton of new people to keep pushing this movement. Hopefully I’ll still be with the same team, having a blast and making history.

Da Stash Box Interviews NewBrain
Hailing from Portland, Oregon, NewBrain is definitely an impressive young talent. Hot on the heels of his hit single "Love My City", we bring you one of the brightest shining stars in the underground.
Where do you represent?
I moved around alot as a kid. I've lived up and down the west coast . Since 15 I've lived in Portland Oregon on and off. It is the only city I consider to be home. My current single "Love My City" is all about Portland. No matter where I live I will always rep the 503.
What inspires your music?
That's a simple question. Life experiences inspire my music. Rather it be pain, struggle, or happiness. I write about what I have been through and what I want to attain. I have always been inspired by Hip Hop that tells a story rather then just a club banger with meaningless lyrics. Not to say I am not a sucker for club bangers. What has been your favorite moment in your career so far?
I've played or been in various bands and projects. Going on tour with my previous post hardcore band Roseway had alot of great moments. The greatest moment of NewBrain is hearing my song on the radio for the first time. It was surreal and humbling. I will never forget that moment.
What goals do you wish to achieve in music?
To be the best that I can. The cliche answer would be to become a huge artist and make lots of money. Although that would be great, its not a priority of mine. I want to write real music that people can connect and relate to. If I can inspire or help people through music that's more then enough achievement for me.
Would you change anything about the music industry?
Short answer would be YES. If you can stay independent that's the way to go. The industry is a business. It's about the bottom line. If I could change anything I would give more power to the people making the art. That's how it should be.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years from now?
I feel like I am getting interviewed for a job (haha). I will probably be living in some huge mansion talking about where I was 5 years ago. Honestly I do not know. Whatever God has for me I will take. I know I will be making music for sure. Rather that be for an audience of one, or millions. Obviously I have huge goals as an artist. I will continue to work hard to attain them. In 5 year's I would love to solely make music for a living. The 9 to 5 gets old, haha.
