EXCLUSIVE: Interview with Oktayne

Hailing from the West coast of the US, we have the pleasure of interviewing a fast rising star in Hip Hop, and he goes by the name Oktayne. You won't find more swagged out songs than his hits "Red Carpet Lady" & "Positive High". Now, it's time to get familiar with the new wave of music...Oktayne

Where do you represent?
I represent the whole state of California. I am from a small town in the bay area called Rodeo. We have tons of rappers in the small town but the scene for hiphop is not big.

How long have you been into music?
I been into music for years, matter fact it had my interest as listener since I was small. When I was a teenager I was in several rap groups but then I didn't feel passion for music like I did now, so I quit making music and went to poetry. I then i came back when I started putting my own cash in my pocket, then knocked out a album. The problem was in 2008, i didn't know how to promote for a year and a half so I didn't sell a lot. Fast Foward to today and I'm planning my third album and a compilation. So overall I been a serious artist for 3 and a half years.

What inspires your music?
I would have to say women, environments that I am in, [and] other artists like Lupe Fiasco, Talib Kweli, Missy Elliot, Jhene Aiko, Jay-z, Do or Die, Big Pun and Ludacris

What has been your favorite moment in your career so far?
When people approach me and ask me do I do music.

What goals do you wish to achieve in music?
My goal is to make it into these hiphop or rap festivals. Even get nominated for some awards, like those award shows for independent artist.

Would you change anything about the music industry?
Nothing. It's changing itself to the point that if you stay independent, you would have just as much success than going major. The thing is the major label is becoming more obsolete as years progress. These days you don't need them and the more you don't need them, the more they come after you. For example Kendrick Lamar didn't need Interscope. But once he became important, they offered his team a distribution deal. In result his team is now TDE/Aftermath/Interscope. Basically the same look for 50 cent and Eminem's said labels.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years from now?
Five years from now FLU MEDIA will be just now becoming an empire of a Media Company.
